Every summer at CBC Music, the annual "30 under 30" list celebrating the achievements of Canada's emerging classical musicians is announced. These musicians are award winners, emerging composers and making other exciting debuts. This year's list includes 18-year old composer, erhu and suona player Sky Yang who was one of the 24-25 Future Award Winner of our HPO Composer Fellowship Program. Sky received a reading session with our orchestra and composed a new work for the celebration of the Hamilton Philharmonic Youth Orchestra's 60th anniversary. Congratulations Sky!
The HPO is proud to present Considering Matthew Shepard on November 26, 2025 at McIntyre Performing Arts Centre featuring The Elora Singers. Composer Craig Hella Johnson’s moving fusion oratorio is a reflection and response to the life, legacy and tragic death of Matthew Shepard, a young gay man whose murder in 1998 became a catalyst for change. Johnson’s composition weaves together poetry, personal reflections and historical texts to create a profound musical journey with soloists, choir and chamber orchestra.
