The Performance

Mozart’s iconic opera Don Giovanni blends wit and tragedy to weave a musical story of seduction, scandal and revenge, where desire can be dangerous, and charm has consequences. The HPO is thrilled to collaborate with COSA (Centre for Opera Studies & Appreciation) on sharing the magic of opera with Hamilton. Join us in Ancaster for a fully-staged production of an abridged Don Giovanni.

About Don Giovanni:

Don Giovanni is a timeless tale about hubris, love, betrayal and revenge, which has moved audiences around the world since Molière’s first rendition of the popular tale “Dom Juan”. In this intimate rendition brought to you by the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra together with the COSA opera company at the Ancaster Memorial Centre, discover or rediscover the story of the serial seducer, always closely followed by his valet Leporello, on his heartless streak of deceptions. But as handsome and seductive as he may be, how long can one carry one in such a thick web of lies and arrogance before having to deal with its consequences?

Acclaimed stage director Melissa Bencic brings to life Mozart’s masterpiece in an accessible and condensed, 90-minute version, seamlessly blending traditional and modern elements in her staging. The cast features some of the most promising Canadian singers and accompanied by the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra chamber ensemble led by conductor James Kahane.
