Introducing our September 23, 2023 guest soloist, Tony Siqi Yun!

He joins us to perform Robert Schumann’s Piano Concerto at our opening night concert, Gemma Conducts Schumann & Mendelssohn.

This is the first time the 22-year-old Canadian-born pianist is performing with the HPO. We can’t wait to collaborate with him and showcase his incredible playing for our audience.

“Being from Toronto with an exciting career already at such a young age, it is exciting to welcome him to Hamilton and show our audiences his virtuosity,” says HPO Music Director Gemma New.

Competitions and Performances

Yun’s performance career is skyrocketing since he won First Prize and a Gold Medal at the 2019 inaugural China International Music Competition, performing Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto in the final round.

During this competition, he met Yannick NĂ©zet-SĂ©guin, QuĂ©bĂ©cois conductor, pianist and music director of the Orchestre MĂ©tropolitain (MontrĂ©al), the Metropolitan Opera, and the Philadelphia Orchestra. Under the baton of Yannick NĂ©zet-SĂ©guin, Yun made his subscription debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra performing Schumann’s Piano Concerto in their 2022–23 season.

Tony Siqi Yun regularly performs solo recitals in both Europe and North America. Recent and future highlights include his debuts at the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, Gewandhaus in Leipzig, DĂŒsseldorf, Luxembourg and in North America the Vancouver Recital Society, Stanford Live and Gilmore Rising Stars Series. At the Kissinger KlavierOlymp in 2022, he was awarded two prizes.

He is a recipient of the Jerome L. Greene Fellowship at the Juilliard School where he studies with Professors Yoheved Kaplinsky and Matti Raekallio.
