September marks the launch of the HPO’s 16-17 Season with a Supercrawl performance alongside local band The Medicine Hat, a solo recital by Associate Concertmaster Lance Ouellette and a highly anticipated opening night concert conducted by Music Director Gemma New, featuring guest pianist Stewart Goodyear.

HAMILTON, ON – The Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra (HPO) continues its HPO @ the Library Series on Friday, September 9. This FREE program features HPO musicians and guest artists at the Hamilton Public Library’s Central Branch. Guests are invited to bring a lunch, sit back and enjoy this special solo performance by HPO Associate Concertmaster Lance Ouellette.

On Saturday, September 10, the HPO heads to Supercrawl for their seventh annual performance. The HPO proudly partners with The Medicine Hat, an emerging Hamilton-based independent band making experimental pop music featuring hypnotic timbres and soaring melodies. This five-piece group returns to perform with an ensemble of the HPO following a highly successful, sold-out HPO Indie Series collaboration in March 2016. Program includes innovative music that pushes traditional boundaries.

On Friday, September 16 the Seniors’ Talk and Tea series presents The Romantics. In this educational and engaging event guests enjoy a late morning tea and treat, explore composers of the romantic era and go behind-the-scenes to an HPO rehearsal in the Great Hall at FirstOntario Concert Hall (formerly Hamilton Place). Hosted by HPO Composer-in-Residence Abigail Richardson-Schulte.

On Saturday, September 17 Music Director Gemma New kicks off the 16-17 Mainstage Season at FirstOntario Concert Hall (formerly Hamilton Place) in Opening Night: Goodyear & Brahms. Phenomenal Canadian Pianist Stewart Goodyear returns to the HPO for Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 1.
