HPO’s 17-18 season continues with a fantastic line up of concerts and events for all ages with a full orchestra family concert featuring the timeless classic, Peter and the Wolf, an intimate book reading with opera sensation Measha Brueggergosman and a powerful mainstage concert, The Best of Italian Opera, featuring some of opera’s most magnificent works.

HAMILTON, ON – On Sunday, October 1, the HPO co-hosts a Literary Recital with gritLit featuring Canadian opera’s own Measha Brueggergosman as she reads from her searingly honest and insightful memoir Something is Always on Fire, punctuated by excerpts from HPO’s Associate Concertmaster Lance Ouellette and pianist Justyna Szajna.

On Saturday, October 14 the Marz Homes Family Concert Series returns to the McIntyre Theatre at Mohawk College with Peter and the Wolf. Guests spend a musical afternoon with family and friends as the HPO presents a one-hour concert full of family favourites like Bizet’s Carmen Suite and Prokofiev’s timeless classic Peter and the Wolf.  Guest conductor Dina Gilbert leads the orchestra while childrens’ entertainer Suzie Sunshine narrates, guiding us through the music.

On Friday, October 20 the Seniors’ Talk and Tea series presents The Best of Italian Opera. In this educational and engaging event guests enjoy a late morning tea and treat, discover the stories behind some of Italy’s most celebrated composers and go behind-the-scenes to an HPO rehearsal in the Great Hall at FirstOntario Concert Hall (formerly Hamilton Place). Hosted by HPO Composer-in-Residence Abigail Richardson-Schulte.

On Saturday, October 21 guest conductor Fabio Mastrangelo leads a beautiful and exciting program in The Best of Italian Opera at the Great Hall at FirstOntario Concert Hall (formerly Hamilton Place). This concert of magnificent Italian operatic works features soprano, Shelley Jackson and tenor, John Mac Master in a concert of famous arias by Verdi, Puccini and Rossini, along with some of opera’s greatest and most familiar melodies.
