March at the HPO is out of this world as Music Director Gemma New takes patrons to the reaches of our galaxy with a powerful mainstage performance of Debussy & Holst’s The Planets.

HAMILTON, ON – On Wednesday, March 6, HPO presents Intimate & Immersive: Escape to Paradise. Led by Music Director Gemma New, this multidisciplinary experience includes immersive projections by multimedia artist Tony Vieira, and delivers a multi-sensory journey into the music of rich and vibrant landscapes.

On Friday, March 8, Composer-in-Residence Abigail Richardson-Schulte hosts an engaging talk and piano demonstration on Debussy & Holst’s The Planets at the Ancaster Achievement Centre.

On Friday, March 8, HPO’s Violin and Viola Duo perform a public concert at the Hamilton Public Library (Central Branch).

On Friday, March 15, HPO’s Seniors’ Talk and Tea series presents Debussy & Holst’s The Planets. Composer-in-Residence

Abigail Richardson-Schulte gives a fascinating glimpse into the lives and music of Debussy and Holst before guests head to the great hall at FirstOntario Concert Hall for a glimpse at a concert rehearsal.

On Friday, March 15, Composer-in-Residence Abigail Richardson-Schulte hosts the Lunch & Learn series which includes a talk and piano demonstration featuring music from March’s mainstage concert, Debussy & Holst’s The Planets.

On Saturday, March 16, Music Director Gemma New leads the HPO and guest artist McMaster University Women’s Choir for Debussy & Holst’s The Planets. First, a lush musical portrait painted by Debussy’s Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun and Nocturnes, then a journey to the distance landscapes to the farthest reaches of our galaxy with Holst’s The Planets.

On Wednesday, March 27 the Gallery Series heads to the Art Gallery of Burlington. Hosted by Composer-in-Residence Abigail Richardson-Schulte, this event includes a one-hour performance by HPO’s Brass Quintet and the Gallery Curator’s talk on the current exhibition, Voices in Black Canadian Narratives.
