HAMILTON, ON—The Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra (HPO) is thrilled to announce that Music Director Gemma New has received the coveted Career Assistance Award from Solti Foundation U.S. This honour is shared with eight other American conductors in recognition of their excellence in music and commitment to continue mastering their craft.

Now a U.S. resident, Gemma qualified for this award as the St. Louis Symphony’s Resident Conductor and Director of the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra. Gemma reacts to this recent honour, “I am thrilled to receive this Career Assistance Award from the Solti Foundation U.S. With this support I aim to improve my languages, and to observe or assist top conductors rehearsing and performing at the world’s great opera houses.”

The Solti Foundation U.S. was established in 2000 to honour the memory of famous operatic conductor Sir Georg Solti by lending significant support to young American musicians. Since then, it has awarded over $500,000 in grants to American conductors.
