HAMILTONON – The Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra is excited to announce Music Director Gemma New has been named among the winners of the Sir Georg Solti Career Assistance Award for 2020 

New is one of 19 winners announced by the Solti Foundation U.S. on May 11, 2020. This award is given to young conductors working in the United States and abroad; New is a previous recipient in 2019 and 2017 

The Solti Foundation U.S. was established in 2000 to honour the memory of famous operatic conductor Sir Georg Solti by lending significant support to young American musicians. Since then, it has awarded over $900,000 in grants to American conductors. 

“[I’m] incredibly thankful to The Solti Foundation U.S. for their support and to be included alongside so many of my amazingly talented peers,” New said of the award on social media. 

In addition to her role at the HPO, New Zealand bornNew is the Resident Conductor of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and Music Director of the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra. In the 19-20 Season New assumed the role of Principal Guest Conductor of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. She has been the Music Director of the HPO since 2015.
