HAMILTON, ON – This spring, join the HPO for Haydn & Mendelssohn, a concert featuring musical expressions of the path from stormy and dark to calm. Curated by Music Director Gemma New, this concert features small orchestra and includes works from Haydn, Mendelssohn, Copland and Keiko Devaux.

The concert opens with Mendelssohn’s String Symphony No. 10 in B minor, a sophisticated work written by the composer at 14 years of age. This is followed by Copland’s Quiet City, featuring Nancy Nelson on English horn and Principal Trumpet Michael Fedyshyn as soloists. The musical journey from dark to light continues with Canadian composer Keiko Devaux’s ebb and concludes with Haydn’s tempestuous Symphony No. 71 in B-flat major, one of his greatest orchestral works.

This performance is recorded at FirstOntario Concert Hall and produced in collaboration with our media partners at Hamilton-based Banko Media.
