Hamilton, Ontario – On Saturday night, the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra (HPO) welcomed over 1,700 people to see an incredible performance of: ‘Home for the Holidays: The Hockey Sweater”. But before the show began, Karen Logan, an Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) volunteer, officially congratulated HPO on the work that’s been done to increase the concert-going experience since receiving a $95,000 grant earlier this year.

“Since 1884 the HPO has played a vital role in Hamilton, helping to shape our cultural and musical experience. Todays Ontario Trillium Foundation grant ensures future generations will benefit from the enhanced HPO visual experience, enriching performances and supporting the arts in our community. As MPP for Hamilton Centre I would like to thank the volunteers, staff and organizers who have helped make this OTF grant possible.” – Andrea Horwath, MPP

Funds from the six-month OTF grant were used by HPO to install screens and buy a new projector for its performances at the First Ontario Concert Hall, adding another level of connectivity between performance and the audience.

“This grant from OTF will allow the HPO to express the music’s message through high quality visuals at various concerts throughout the year and improve the overall patron experience, thus meeting the needs and interests of people in our community as they come to experience this replenishing art form. This investment in our region’s professional orchestra improves the quality of infrastructure for Hamilton’s premier concert hall and will also positively impact other performing arts groups renting the Great Hall.” -Diana Weir, Executive Director, Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra

The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Government of Ontario and is one of Canada’s leading granting foundations. OTF awarded more than $120 million to some 700 projects this year to build healthy and vibrant Ontario communities. www.otf.ca.
