Biography

Mexican tenor Ernesto Ramírez is gaining acclaim for his distinctive Italianate sound, praised for its “wonderfully fluid line and brilliant high notes,” paired with “suave, nuanced lyricism.” Notable debuts include Pinkerton in “Madama Butterfly” with Opera de Leon and Rodolfo in “La bohème” with Pacific Northwest Opera. He also performed as Don Jose with Opera Kelowna’s “Carmen” and the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony. 

In 2022, Ernesto stars as Don José in “Carmen” with Orchestre Classique de Montréal and debuts as Ralph Rackstraw with Vancouver Opera. His international presence extends to France, Germany, Switzerland, Canada, and the United States. 

Ernesto’s repertoire includes Raoul in the Canadian Premiere of Meyerbeer’s “Les Huguenots,” Arturo in “I Puritani,” and Alfredo in “La Traviata.” Noteworthy collaborations include sharing the stage with soprano Sondra Radvanovsky in Roberto Devereux. 

In response to geopolitical conflict, Ernesto participated in Against the Grain Theatre’s digital project “Bound.” His “resplendent tenor” has graced performances of Verdi’s “Requiem” and Beethoven’s “Ninth Symphony.” Ernesto Ramirez’s artistry extends to cinematic videos during the pandemic, featured in Opera Breaks directed by François Racine and produced by Domoney Artists.
