Biography

Dusty Micale is an award-winning composer, songwriter, producer, keyboardist and arranger. He studied Composition at the Juilliard School and received his Bachelor’s of Music from Mannes/The New School in NYC. He has been a member of ASCAP since 1989. He is a tenured Professor of Music Studies at Mohawk College (Hamilton, ON).

His original song, “Ordinary Sunday” (translated into Polish -“Z Dwojga Cial” sung by Andrzej Piaseczny) held the #1 spot on the charts. Dusty’s songs are placed in feature films including: Mystic Pizza (Julia Roberts), Avenging Angelo (Sylvester Stallone), Off and Running (Cyndi Lauper), Rude Awakening (Cheech Marin), and Running Wild (Brooke Shields). Dusty continues to collaborate on projects with Academy Award winner Franke Previte (“I Had the Time of My Life”, Dirty Dancing). Their prior work includes Cyndi Lauper’s A Night To Remember . Dusty was also the Orchestrator/Keyboardist on Dominic Chianese’s CD Core N’ Grato (“Uncle Jr.” in The Sopranos).

Dusty composed the complete score for over twenty titles of Star Trek Books-On-Tape; featuring narrations by Leonard Nimoy and George Takei, and others. He has scored full-length documentaries which were internationally acclaimed. (Contemporary Days, Prayers of the Ancient Ones). His short film scores can be found in Ciao Bella (Cannes Film Festival) and Going Down (Woodstock, Tribeca and Berlin Film Festivals), and include works with HA&L (Hamilton Arts & Letters); The Foundry, and The Perfect Archive (2021), KASSAK (2022), and Necromantic (2023 release date). He has also scored several TV commercials, industrials and animated cartoons.

Highlights of Dusty’s keyboard performances include: Gary U.S. Bonds (National Tour), La Bamba and the Hubcaps (Bruce Springsteen/Conan O’Brien’s horn section), Jerry Topinka (jazz guitarist), Peter Noone, Billy J. Kramer, Glen Burtnik (Styx and ELO), Patty Smyth, Fiona, Debbie Harry, Denny Lane (Wings), Liberty DeVito (Billy Joel), Marshall Crenshaw, Dave Mason, Ian Thomas, Darcy Hepner, and many more.
