Biography

Charles Amoah is a trombonist and conductor currently entering the third year of the Bachelor of Music program at Western University, where he studies trombone performance with Dr. Denis Jiron. He is also the founder and Artistic Director of the Western Brass Brigade, a chamber brass ensemble which made its concert debut in March 2026. Beginning in the 2026-2027 season, he will serve as Conductor Apprentice with the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra.

His early interest in conducting was encouraged by high school music teachers Irena Tomczyk and Edna Teguibon. He has since continued his conducting development under the mentorship of Len Ingrao, Music Director of the London Community Orchestra, through conducting lessons, rehearsal observation, and ongoing independent study of orchestral and operatic repertoire and performance practice.

In addition to his musical work, Amoah serves as an Officer in the Cadet Instructors Cadre of the Canadian Armed Forces. He has worked as an instructor and conductor for cadet summer military band courses at the Valcartier Cadet Training Centre for the past two years and will serve as Course Commander this summer. He currently coordinates training and oversees the music program for the 27 City of London Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron, where he mentors youth in the areas of musicianship, leadership development, aviation, physical fitness and citizenship.
