The Performance

This New Year, the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra presents a Mendelssohn & Schumann, featuring music by Mendelssohn, Beethoven, and Schumann with pianist Marc-André Hamelin.

The performance starts with shimmering delight as Felix Mendelssohn’s Overture to A Midsummer Night’s Dream transports us to an enchanted world through dreamy soundscapes. A masterclass in musical storytelling, Mendelssohn’s iconic work captures Shakespeare’s magical forest in all its playful mischief and lyrical beauty. Then, Canadian virtuoso Marc-André Hamelin takes the stage as soloist on Beethoven’s sparkling second Piano Concerto.

This programme offers a vibrant start to the new year, blending lyrical beauty with orchestral brilliance. From the playful magic of Mendelssohn to the radiant energy of Schumann’s Symphony No. 1, this program showcases the richness of Romantic music performed live by the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra.
