Biography
British-Canadian baritone Alexander Dobson has been praised for his musical and dramatic artistry on both opera and concert stages. An ardent singer since childhood, Alexander’s solo dĂ©but was at twelve years old, as a treble soloist in the Canadian premiere of Lloyd Webber’s Requiem under conductor Elmer Iseler. Since then, he has found success internationally – with performances with the Seattle Symphony, L’Opera de MontrĂ©al, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Philadelphia Symphony, Linbury Theatre in London, England, Warsaw Philharmonic and many others. He has sang and recorded for Airline Icarus and Prince of Players – two works that have been awarded a JUNO for Classical Composition of the Year (2015) and two GRAMMY nominations. He was lauded for his “gripping embodiment of Wozzeck” (Journal Voir) in a production of the Berg opera with Théâtre du Nouveau Monde and Orchestre MĂ©tropolitain, conducted by Yannick NĂ©zet- SĂ©guin.
As a teacher, Alexander has many years of experience when he is not performing. He is a warm and compassionate teacher who believes that everybody has a singing voice and is passionate about bringing that voice out from his students.
