We are looking forward to a busy September of performances and events as we begin our 22-23 Concert Season! The HPO Brass Quintet joins festival goers for this year’s Supercrawl in downtown Hamilton. Then, HPO Music Director Gemma New reunites with our musicians on the Mainstage for our 22-23 Opening Night concert, Gemma Conducts Rachmaninoff.
The HPO Brass Quintet performs at Supercrawl on James St. N. Come ready to dance along to a highenergy repertoire of pop music, hits from Broadway and movies, and orchestral favourites, all arranged for brass! Find them on the TD Stage on Sunday, September 11 from 1pm to 1:45pm.
On Friday, September 23 at 11am, our Talk & Tea series returns to the concert hall! At Talk & Tea: Tchaikovsky, HPO Composer-in-Residence Abigail Richardson-Schulte explores the composer’s life and music ahead of our September 24 concert Gemma Conducts Rachmaninoff, featuring Tchaikovsky’s fateful Fourth Symphony. Talk & Tea audiences can enjoy light refreshments during this fascinating presentation before going into the concert hall for a sneak peek at an HPO rehearsal.
On Saturday, September 24 at 7:30pm, we open our 22-23 Mainstage season with Gemma Conducts Rachmaninoff. Music Director Gemma New conducts and award-winning pianist Daniel Hsu is guest soloist for Rachmaninoff’s monumental Piano Concerto No. 2. Audiences also hear the world premiere of The Path Illuminates by Abigail Richardson-Schulte, a work commissioned by the HPO to
commemorate her 10 years as Composer-in-Residence.
Just before our concert on Saturday, September 24, audience members are invited to join Abigail, Gemma and musicians in the Great Hall at 6:30pm for our Inside the Music: Pre-Concert talk to learn about the works ahead of the evening’s performance. Doors open at 6pm.
At present time, HPO audience members are not required to provide proof of vaccination or wear a facemask, though we maintain a mask-positive environment for those who choose to wear them and encourage patrons who can do so to get vaccinated.
