A Note from James Kahane

Our musical world has grown accustomed to a certain sound universe. Whether it be pop music, film music, classical music, or otherwise, they are stylistically related to the idioms that were created hundreds of years ago and as such have many similarities once we look at them closely. But far beneath all the layers of time and styles, these successive strata that have resulted in the music we know today are the sounds of ancient civilizations, foreign cultures, and perhaps even further, the sounds of what was before human history itself. Join us for a journey in space and time and hear music and sound universes you’ve never heard before, all packed in one concert: from medieval plainchant, Japanese and Sri Lankan traditional music, Finnish and Bulgarian folk music, to liturgical church music,  through the prism of the next generation of composers with their own personal styles and identities, let yourself be immersed and surprised by a unique sensory and musical experience.

Come listen and be part of the performance of two world premieres and two Canadian premieres by a selection of talented Canadian composers, and one Finn, with contrasting musical aesthetics that are sure to broaden your musical imagination.
