HPO Joins the Band

Hamilton Philharmonic musicians are available to lead a workshop for the students in your band or orchestra.  These sessions can be designed to supplement and enrich your music program.  Invite one or more HPO musicians to your school to work with your students on areas such as ensemble performance, specific repertoire or instrument technique. 

If desired you may arrange for an HPO musician to visit your school multiple times over the course of the school year creating lasting relationships with your students and ensuring a continuum of learning.

How does it work?

One or more HPO musicians can provide any or all of the following sessions. The duration of a musician’s visit will be determined by what type of workshop you require. 

• Masterclass
  An HPO musician will listen to students play a prepared piece and offer each student constructive input on instrument technique, musicality and practicing methods.  The masterclass can be for students performing on one instrument or a family of instruments.  All students in the class would be welcome to attend. 
• Sectional rehearsal
  In this session an HPO musician would lead a sectional rehearsal (for strings, woodwinds, brass or percussion), providing extra work on your band or orchestra material.  Students will enjoy the benefits of preparing in detail their particular parts and exploring their role in a section.
• HPO in your band or orchestra
  Have an HPO musician sit in on your band or orchestra rehearsal.  Skills for playing in an ensemble can be demonstrated by example and students will be encouraged to discover ensemble listening and playing techniques.  This session can be combined with a Masterclass or Sectional rehearsal.

HPO Joins the Band workshops are designed for Intermediate and Secondary schools with a band or orchestra program (grades 7-12)

What's the cost?

The cost varies depending on the length of time you would like a musician, or musicians, to spend at your school. Please contact us for further details.
