Position: Executive Director

The HPO is a vibrant, professional orchestra with an annual budget of approximately $1,250,000. In the 08/09 season (September-May) the orchestra will perform 13 subscription series concerts as well as education, community outreach and other engagements. The HPO performs principally in the 2,000-seat Great Hall of Hamilton Place. While continuing to maintain fiscal responsibility, the orchestra is committed to expansion underwritten by growing community support.

Major responsibilities:

  • Providing leadership in developing organizational plans
  • Working with the Finance Committee and board in preparing annual budgets and ensuring the orchestra operates within budget guidelines
  • Overseeing fundraising planning and implementation
  • Working collegially with the Artistic Director to ensure successful annual performance seasons
  • Overseeing marketing and promotion of all programs and services
  • Carrying out policies authorized by the board and ensuring the board is kept fully informed on all matters relating to the operation of the orchestra
  • Overseeing box office management
  • Ensuring adherence to all obligations regarding administrative staff and unionized orchestra personnel
  • Promoting active participation by volunteers
  • Establishing and maintaining working relationships with community organizations

Qualifications:  Proven administrative experience; strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills; love of music; enthusiasm for professional responsibilities. Knowledge of the symphonic orchestra field is an asset.
